Like a good fight film? The competition and training in a good flick can really get you revved up and ready to hit it hard. The plot of the movie is explained on IMDb:
“Two brothers face the fight of a lifetime – and the wreckage of their broken family – within the brutal, high-stakes world of Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) fighting in Lionsgate’s action/drama, WARRIOR. An ex-Marine haunted by a tragic past, Tommy Riordan returns to his hometown of Pittsburgh and enlists his father, a recovered alcoholic and his former coach, to train him for an MMA tournament awarding the biggest purse in the history of the sport. As Tommy blazes a violent path towards the title prize, his brother, Brendan, a former MMA fighter unable to make ends meet as a public school teacher, returns to the amateur ring to provide for his family. Even though years have passed, recriminations and past betrayals keep Brendan bitterly estranged from both Tommy and his father. But when Brendan’s unlikely rise as an underdog sets him on a collision course with Tommy, the two brothers must finally confront the forces that tore them apart, all the while waging the most intense, winner-takes-all battle of their lives.” Continue reading
Have you ever heard of Richard Sandrak? A few years ago he had the nicknames “Little Hercules” and “The World’s strongest boy”. He surprised and stunned spectators when he jumped on stage as a 6 year old boy revealing a six-pack and a build similar to a pro bodybuilder (see video below).
By the time he was 6 years old he could bench press 180 pounds, this rose to 210 pounds by the age of 8. He became a world wide icon when he starred in the documentary “The World’s Strongest Boy”.
Controversy was a big part of his life after the release of this documentary. People everywhere were appalled at his parents training such a small child to these heights. But even more so, was the outrage over the belief of his father feeding him steroids. It would be revealed later on the Richard was quite lonely and unhappy during periods of childhood as he was always made to train and was never given the opportunity to relax and be a real kid.
Richard wasn’t allowed to go outside and play with friends, he was severely isolated and limited in his activity. According to an interview he was fed a diet that consisted mainly of a powder mixed by his father. To this day the contents of the mix are unknown to Richard, and this is what really fed the controversy of what was really happening behind the scenes. Richard’s trainers Frank and Sherry Goggin-Giardina refused to continue training him after his bodyfat levels dropped to stunning 1%, an otherwise lifes threatening level of bodyfat.
Time does fly, Richard Sandrak, the worlds strongest boy is now 19 (2011 – he was born 15 April 1992), and no longer a boy, but a young man. With all the controversy and attention he’s seen, Richard seems to have grown up with an excellent attitude.
He’s known to his friends and family as a nice guy who still trains hard as a Martial Artist, Bodybuilding and aspiring Actor. Hopefully we’ll see lots more of ‘Little Hercules’ again in the future!
